Nail Probs

As you can see, this looks like a finger because is meant to! It is a sticker that covers everything but your nail! Its a stencil so that painting them is a breeze.

Nail Probs

Mechanical Hand - This sounds crazy but it was the first thing that came to mind. A mechanical hand! It has all the characteristics of a real hand, but its mechanical! Comes in gold, silver and bronze! It would paint quickly and efficiently.

Nail Stencil - You know those nail stickers people sometimes use instead of polish? Well this is the exact opposite! It is a sticker that covers your finger leaving your nail exposed. After applying, you dip your finger in the paint, leaving a perfect layer of polish on your nails!

Nail Painting Machine - Similar to my mechanical hand idea but not so much a hand. You place the color you want and the brush in their holsters, flip a switch and let it work its magic!

Ink Pad - You pour a small amount of nail polish on the inkpad then press your nails in it! You have to buy a special nail polish that doesn't stick to skin.

Nails

  • It is so annoying to try and paint your nails with your non-dominant hand! I paint my left hands nails and they look great, but when I have to use my left hand to paint my right hands nails it looks like crap!
  • Painting your nails can be an expression of who you are and trying to use your non-dominant can be struggle. You have to try to keep it steady but it always ends up mostly on my fingers, not my nails.
  • This problem needs to be solved because my right hands nails always looks like crap! It does such a good job on my left hand that it deserves to look just as good!
  • A general observer (like a boy) needs to know that nail polish isn't always perfectly smooth so it makes it difficult to put it on my right hand when my left hand is unsteady and shaky.

Problem Statements

Don't you hate it when:
1 Keep messing up your locker combo
2 Fashionable clothes aren’t comfortable
3 Forget something at home
4 People litter
5 You procrastinate

Problem Statements:
1 It is very annoying when you're distracted and you continue to mess up your locker combination.
2 Its hard to look well dressed and be comfortable at the same time.
3 There needs to be a better way to remind myself to bring something to school/work. I always end up at school realizing I forgot something important.
4 Its extremely annoying when people are oblivious and throw there trash into our environment. Not only is it bad for people and animals, but it is also destroying the world itself.
5 I need a way to nag myself into working on projects. I always wait until the last minute.

Good vs. Bad

We had to find good inventions and bad inventions for an assignment and this is what I found. The "'Ove Glove" is a good invention because it makes it easier to move hot food while cooking. It's more innovative then a pot holder because it allows the user to have a better grip on pots and pans.

This is a bad design. The heat switches are above the burners. This can be quite a hazard considering you have to reach over the burners to change the heat setting. Nobody wants to burn themselves while turning down the heat!

The Deep Dive

Today in class we watched The Deep Dive. It was about an organization, IDEO, who redesigned the everyday shopping cart. I thought they did a great job not throwing out any ideas they thought were a little crazy, they welcomed all ideas because they believed that all ideas can branch off into something great. They designed a cart with a innovative child seat where the handle to the cart flips over them acting as a seat belt. The "basket" is made out of multiple smaller, removable hand baskets which can be removed making it easier to grab items. One of the last cool addition was the hooks on the interior frame of then cart, they are made so you can hang your bags on them without stacking them in a basket. Overall it was a very creative idea for  a cart.

Designing a Wallet

Here in class we were given the assignment to design a wallet for a partner. We started out by interviewing our partner, not only just learn about their wallet needs, but to also themselves so it could be more personalized. Next, i had to dig deeper into her wallet expectations and i learned that she needed more space not only for money but also for an ID and pictures of family member. An easy-access change pocket was also a necessity. After this I had to try to understand her needs and asked questions like "What is she trying to achieve?" and "What's something I see about my partners experience that she doesn't?". I found that the answer to these questions were all pretty much the same: she needs more space, something reliable and something that is easy to use. After this stage, I tried to stand in her point of view. I knew she needed to have more space because she always shoves her cash inside. I also struggled with this problem so i understood this need of her. Next, I designed five different wallets that i think would suit her needs and chose the one i thought was the best. I finally constructed it out of a cereal box and glue. I brought into school and me and my partner consulted about what was good and what needed to change.

Design an Education System

I think a good learning system should be set up based on an individual child's potential, not
on a class as a whole. If a teacher teaches a certain way it will be picked up by some but not all. Not every child is the same so how can people expect everyone to succeed? There should be smaller classes so the teachers can teach kids on a more individual level. Having less students in one class means more one on one time. Also, education should be taught by a teacher who will engage in what these kids are learning about, not someone who will stand in front of the classroom and "deliver" the information. Education has gone dull, it's no wonder kids cant pay attention! Kids should be excited to learn and that can happen with great teachers and smaller classes.
